Class descriptions:

Gentle (Hatha) Yoga: All levels. This class offers students who prefer a slower, gentler yoga practice to learn basic standing and seated postures with focus on proper body alignment, breathing, and form. Gain flexibility, balance and strength, reduce your stress and quiet the mind in this gentle class.

Yogilates™All levels: The class, as designed by Jonathan Urla. Class combines the principles of Pilates (focusing on strengthening the center of the body, the deep abdominals) with the breath and flow of Hatha yoga.  Suitable for all levels, including beginner.

Slow Flow Yoga: Level I: We will explore fundamental yoga postures (seated, standing, balancing, twisting, basic inverted) and their alignment, emphasizing the power of breath, while learning basic slow linking of postures.  Level 2: students have an understanding of the basic postures, their proper alignment and breath techniques, and the Surya and Chandra Namaskaras (Sun and Moon Salutes).

Vinyasa Flow: Levels I and II. Vinyasa (“flow”) style class focusing on strength, flexibility, focus and linking postures and breath.   Advanced beginner/intermediate level, working knowledge of proper alignment in postures and an understanding of breathwork.  Vinyasa is an open system of hatha yoga that evolves and changes with each practice.  It is meditation in motion, flowing from one posture to another on waves of the breath.  Individuals are encouraged to practice at their own pace, using modifications or props to accomodate their needs.

Pilates Mat: Based on the movements designed by Joseph Pilates, wherein all movement generates from the center, or “deep abdominals”. Pilates is a discipline that will help you gain strength and develop long, lean muscle tone. Pilates principles are concentration, centering, control, focus, flow and breathing. All of the exercises are performed with these principles in mind.  All levels.

ZUMBA All levels: Zumba is a fitness class with high energy and motivating music that includes Latin and international rhythmns, with moves from salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggeton, flamenco, country and hip hop!  It's founder, Alberto "Beto" Perez, an accomplished dancer and inspiring trainer, has created routines with fast/slow combinations which tone and sculpt the body through aerobic and interval training.  But best of all, it's FUN!  So ditch the workout, and join the party!

$112 for an eight week-session.

Men's Yoga: All levels. Class for men only emphasizing strength, flexibility, mental focus and breathing.

Restorative Yoga is a chance to teach and encourage the body into a state of deep relaxation doing supported postures that calm the central nervous system.   All levels. Please check the schedule for upcoming dates.

Intro Yoga:  Beginner. Class for students brand new to yoga or who are recovering from injury or illness. 1 hour class, 4 week session; held as students can fill the class.  $60

NIA All levels.  Nia is a combination of dance, yoga, and martial arts movements.  Students experience a fun and gentler cardiovascular practice for the whole body.  NIa blends the presision and power of martial arts, the joyful expression and shaping of dance arts, and the breath and flow of yoga.  Movement and music magically integrate the body, mind, emotion, and spirit.  Students of varying fitness levels and ages can share the joy in the same class! Be prepared to move barefoot or in soft soled shoes.  No dance experiene necessary...you can do it ~  just join in!

$112 for an eight week-session.

Ashtanga Yoga This vigorous style of yoga, as taught by Sri K.Pattahbi Jois, is composed of a precisely designed sequence of postures that accompany deep breathing, drishdi (gaze) and bandhas (energy locks). Prepare to sweat in this 1.5 hour class, 6 week session.

Prenatal Yoga: All Levels.  For mothers-to-be, yoga is an ideal way to prepare for birth and labor.  It promotes fitness and flexibility, tones the pelvic area, increases circulation, helps with breath control and balances mind-body energies.  A healthy, flexible body along with a calm mind are tools you will want to call upon during labor and birth.  As always, please clear with your medical team if this a new practice for you.

This class is held by the session only and is $112 for eight weeks.  Pre-reg. only.

The eight limbs of yoga: Tenets for taking your yoga with you into your life.

  1. Yamas ethical precepts that transcend race, religion, time; i.e. no matter what race or sex you are, no matter what religion you practice, nor where you live in whatever time period, they still apply. They Yamas are:
    Non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, sexual moderation and non-possessiveness.
  2. Niyamas – practicing the qualities of purity, contentment, austerity, study of sacred texts (of any religion) and seeing the Divine in all God’s creatures.
  3. Asan or Asanas the physical postures to strengthen and balance all bodily systems and keep the body and mind free from pain, disease, and inflexibility.
  4. Pranayama breath work - the measuring, directing, and controlling of the breath, and thus of energy.
  5. Pratyaharasense withdrawal - either from attachment to external objects, or controlling the senses (what you listen to, what you allow yourself to view), or directing them in a focused manner.
  6. Dharana concentration - means “immovable concentration of the mind” and refers to techniques used to induce keen concentration, which can direct you to the seventh limb, meditation.
  7. Dhyanameditation.
  8. Samadhi state of bliss. Means “putting together, joining or combing with”; referring to the union of the contemplator with the object of contemplation. In Samadhi, we “stand inside of” our true Self in preparation for the ultimate state of classical yoga, the eternal aloneness of that Self in the purity and joy of its being.
